there's nothing to sell if the art doesn't happen in the right way. It has to be protected. And it can't happen on the same kind of a timetable that business can. It's just a different thing. Art doesn't come in a quarterly way.

It doesn’t matter how artistic breakthroughs work — they’re not meant to really be known — just so long as they happen and you can recognize when they do.

knowing how [art] works doesn't make it work. The magic isn't how it works, the magic is the magic. The magic happens in a way that's intuitive and accidental at times, or incidental where you try lots of things and suddenly something works and you don't know why.
